2022: The Future Is Here

Is it just me or does 2022 seem more futuristic than say, 2000? Going from the 1900’s to the 2000’s was a big deal, don’t get me wrong but 2022 always seemed like such a far off time. For me it all started back 25 years ago in 1997. John and I had just gotten married and as we settled into married life we decided to put together a time capsule. It was a small canister that we got from Things Engraved in the mall. It contained a check list of things to put in it and some stationary to give friends and family if they wanted to write a letter to “future John and Andrea”. We started passing out the blank pages and soon the little time capsule took on a life of its own. Not only did we get letters but also gifts. I guess people were quite confident that a.) we would still be together after all that time b.) the human species wouldn’t be wiped off the face of the earth by some mutating virus doomed to get us all. Let’s just say the jury is still out on that last one. After all, 2022 is just a few says old, a lot can happen between now and October. Okay, back to the time capsule story. Everything we collected and was given to us wouldn’t fit in the canister so we got a Rubbermaid container to hold all the goods. On the top of the canister there was a sticker that said “Do not open until” and then you write in the year you wish to open it. I clearly remember writing 2022 and thinking how weird that looked and I thought about how things would be different when that date arrived. We sealed up the container and wrapped it in garbage bags, sealed it again and tucked it away in the basement where it still sits today collecting dust waiting for the greatest unboxing. Well, the future is almost here! There are some people who are no longer with us that have put a note in the capsule so it will be bittersweet to read their wishes for us. As well as many others who are excited to see what’s been tucked away for so long. We have to be patient for a little while longer though, so while we wait here is a look at a few snaps that I took back in 2021. 🙂

**As usual, you can click on the pictures to enlarge them.**

One of the things that I want to capture most in the world is the aurora borealis or northern lights. I swear one of these days we are hopping on a plane because if they don’t come to us we will go to them! For now I will have to make do with these few flickers I managed to capture last fall.

A few snaps of the Hr. Grace Christmas parade!

We went to the Merry and Bright light show at the MUN Botanical Gardens in early December. So many beautiful lights and displays there.

We also had a time watching the mummers on parade in Bowring Park. Even though my last blog was based on the Mummer’s Festival I thought I’d share a few of my favorite snaps again. Here’s the link to that Mummer’s Blog for those who didn’t get a chance to view it.

These next few snaps were taken at the Cavalier’s Christmas Pawty. Cavs young and old put on their most festive costumes and had a chance to frolic and play with their friends. Thankfully they allowed me to drop by and take a few photos. Masking and social distancing were maintained by the owners but puppy kisses and hugs were allowed 100%.

Christmas morning at Mom’s house. I think Santa was here!

Downtown, where all the lights are bright.

New Years Eve we went for a little walk. It was a grand day, nice and calm weather-wise. On our way back home we stopped to take a few pics of the people having a game of shinny on the pond.

Last but not least, a few pictures of the Torbay fireworks!

For us, 2021 has had it’s share of ups and downs and plenty of changes to be sure. One thing I can always count on is that there’s always something to take a picture of, hopefully I will never lose that desire. Let’s try to make 2022 everything we wish it to be. Don’t get hung up on setting unrealistic goals and resolutions. Rather, look for the little things that bring joy and peace to your life. Take pleasure in those gifts. In no way am I wishing my time away but I’m really looking forward to October when John and I can open our treasure chest and see what pearls of wisdom and beauty have been bestowed upon us.

Until Next Time!

Andrea
